Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) and the Technical University of Liberec (TUL) from the Czech Republic co-hosted the 4th annual International Conference on Textiles and Fashion at the Bangkok Pullman King Power on July 3rd – 4th 2012. The conference provided an opportunity for scientists, scholars, and students from both the public and private sectors to present and discuss their research findings in the field of textiles and fashion.
We were honored by the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali at the opening ceremony event. Her Royal Highness opened the proceedings with a speech and then toured the many exhibits created by the participants. Following the official opening ceremonies, we heard from 3 keynote speakers on a wide range of subjects pertaining to textiles and fashion. The first keynote speaker was Prof. Ing Jiri Militky from the Technical University of Liberec, who gave a presentation on “Future Trends in the Textile Branch”. The second keynote speaker of the day was Prof. Veronica Bogao from the Polimoda Ent Art School located in Florence, Italy. She gave a speech on the subject of “Trend Forecasting in Textiles and Fashion”. The final keynote speaker of the event was Prof. Ing Sayed Ibrahim from the Technical University of Liberec, who focused his speech on “Trends in Technical Textiles”. Following the speeches, we were entertained during the night at the “Textiles & Fashion Party” which included fashion shows and musical renditions from RMUTP students and Alumni (Mr. Koh Saxman). On the second day of the conference, participants from over 17 countries gave oral presentations to the group in their specific areas of expertise within the field of textiles and fashion. Both academics and professionals in the field oversaw each oral presentation. Overall the event was very successful and leads to greater level of international cooperation between RMUTP and outside academic community.
